We though that the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 was the best truck news we were getting this year, but boy were we wrong! We love the Ram 1500 with all our heart, but a Jeep truck hasn’t been available since the Jeep Comanche was discontinued in 1992. For drivers who have craved the off-road performance, iconic style and unstoppable fun of a Jeep truck, there is a new contender in the ring. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator engine output, off-roading features, and style will make it an instant hit for drivers looking for a new midsize truck.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Engine Options
When the 2020 Jeep Gladiator begins arriving on our lot in 2019, all models will come with a bold 3.6-liter V-6 engine. This engine will offer 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission will come standard, with an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission available on all trim levels. Even better, this base powertrain will offer class-leading towing numbers of up to 7,650 when properly equipped.
Can I get a diesel engine with the new Jeep truck?
A diesel powertrain will eventually be available on the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, but it will not be immediately released. We will have to wait until 2020 itself for a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 to become available. When the diesel Gladiator arrives, it should be rated for 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.
Off-Road Confidence on the 2020 Gladiator
Thanks to an off-road friendly suspension, standard 4×4 drive, tow hooks, skid plates, and much more, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator should offer off-roading potential that leaves many other midsize trucks in the dust. We think that the capability of this vehicle may even match that of the Jeep Wrangler, though we will have to analyze the numbers a little more to say that for sure.
